Intimate Backyard Wedding
Jen and Tyler’s intimate backyard wedding was one of my favourite ones to photograph this year. Taking place at her grandmother’s home, there was so much soul, love and emotion and went into their day. The DIY details were everywhere and she even made the train for her own wedding dress. I loved capturing the candid moments in a documentary way, but I also loved capturing all of the details. A great mix of both is what I strive for.
Jen said, ” The idea was to create an easy going, and fun atmosphere for our guests, where everyone could come together and celebrate. I created a backyard, bohemian, vintage garden feel to embrace the day. I love designing and creating! The wedding was going to be DIY with help from so many friends and family”.
Pushing through with their backyard wedding
Over the last few years they had gone through so much together. Being a part of their intimate backyard wedding day was very special to me as a photographer. Jen had explained to me at our first meeting:
“Just over a year before our wedding, we were forced to leave our jobs teaching and our home in Fort McMurray. The fire that raged the city, destroyed our home and everything we had owned and built up together. We were thankful to be out safe, as well as all of our friends and students, but were devastated by the sudden loss. We made the venture back to Ontario, where friends and family were there to greet us. Without their love and support we would have been where we are today.
