Romantic Winter Wedding at One King West
I love how every single wedding I photograph is different than the last. It’s an absolute joy to witness how couples orchestrate their special day, from the venue to the meticulous details and, ultimately, the seamless reflection of their personal style. In my consultations and through detailed questionnaires, I get to know my couples preferences and why they made their choices so that I can make sure to bring their vision to life on their wedding day. When I connected with Dan and Margaret about their winter wedding at One King West, it became clear that their wedding would embody a theme synonymous with their larger-than-life approach – go big or go home.
They envisioned a classic, elegant affair with a gold/white theme and One King West was the perfect venue for that. From the grand staircase, architecture and the history of the venue it was the perfect canvas for their wedding day. One King West is a timeless venue where no matter how you decorate, it will be glam, grand and chic. Of course they had a few surprises later that would really make everyone in attendance feel that way.
The morning prep started in the Fifteen Hundred Suite where Margaret’s dress, a masterpiece of embroidery and intricate details, took center stage on a mannequin. The talented team from Corrie Elle Artistry ensured the bridal party looked flawless, while champagne toasts on the balcony added a touch of pre-celebration glamour. Margaret popped champagne on the balcony with her besties, & then got into her stunning custom gown by Jasemin of Elite Bridal.
Meanwhile, Dan and his groomsmen all got ready together in one of the suites at One King West. It was a quiet and fun morning together raising a toast & making sure Dan looked dapper for his first look with Margaret.
Winter First Looks & City Vibes
They chose to do a first look on the Fifteen Hundred balcony which was such a smart idea. First looks really free up time for you to enjoy your wedding day with the people you love later. Most importantly though, they allow you to see each other sooner. Why wait to see your partner so late in the day?
Downtown Toronto has so many great spots for photos but one of the areas I love the most is The Esplanade. We spent some time down there & then caught the beautiful winter light up by Meridian Hall. Dan & Margaret were so fun to photograph because they trusted me to do my thing. Although Margaret had a stunning gown, they were both into it when I asked if he could pick her up. The black and white photo with the CN Tower behind them is one of my faves from their day. They prove that you can have a classy, elegant and upscale wedding, while ALSO having fun with your photos in addition to those classic portraits.
One King West Winter Wedding Reception
The inside of The Grand Banking Hall is definitely a sight when it comes to your wedding reception. The cathedral windows and the columns fill the space with grandeur. Did you know that the tables when you enter into the room are the original banking tables from the Dominion Bank? Ok, Back to Dan & Margaret.
For couples contemplating the inclusion of cold sparks in their wedding, the resounding answer should be YES. Dan and Margaret infused magic into their first dance AND cake cutting with the dazzling display, adding an enchanting touch to those moments. To top it all off, they had a live artist who painted portraits of different couples during the reception. What a fun thing to do for your guests!
From Margaret’s cathedral veil to the historic windows of One King West, and the captivating moments with cold sparks, Dan and Margaret truly embodied ‘go big or go home’. Their wedding day unfolded as a testament to their vision, seamlessly blending class, elegance, and upscale charm with moments of unbridled joy captured in timeless photographs I had the honour of taking.
