Hamilton Waterfall Proposal – Atique & Zahra

Hamilton Waterfall Proposal

Super sweet Hamilton waterfall proposal coming at you! When Atique inquired with me about his idea to propose to Zahra at a waterfall I think I jumped up and down a million times. To photograph such a special moment and do it at a waterfall felt magical.  As a lover of adventure and waterfalls, this proposal gave me goosebumps!

Tips for your Hamilton waterfall proposal

Pulling off a proposal is no small feat. Atique and I hopped on the phone before the proposal to chat about his ideas. Having previously been to this waterfall, the scouting part was already done. That is something I absolutely recommend if you are photographing a proposal! Big tip number one! Make sure you know where you are going, and how to get your angles! Telling Atique how to stand, we came up with a plan where he would look back at me right before he got down on one knee.

Wanting to photograph the proposal at the bottom of this Hamilton waterfall, I told him that it would be easy for me to blend in with the other people there. I would pretend to be photographing the waterfall from far enough away using my zoom lens. Zahra wouldn’t even notice I was there. This is tip number two. Decide whether the photographer is going to blend in with the scene or be completely hidden.

Watching them walk down the trail to the falls, I warned a few people who were near that a proposal would be taking place. I politely asked them if they could hold off closely exploring the waterfall for about 10 minutes. Everyone was so helpful and super excited to watch the proposal happen. Tip number three. Make friends with the people around you if the proposal is going to be in a public space. Let a few others in on the super sweet secret and you’ll have no problem.

Atique and Zahra walked down the trail, approached the waterfall and took some photos of each other. Atique did some jumping photos – I assume to get some of the extra nervous energy out! Then it was time – Atique looked back at me, and I knew it was happening. He got down on one knee. Zahra was so surprised and full of so much joy! She obviously said a bit YES! Hanging around the waterfall for a short time, we took some nice couple’s portraits together before we zoomed away on our next adventure.

What to do after your proposal?

You’ve just proposed? Now what? Well it turns out Atique and I had the same idea – we had tickets to this lantern festival out by Lake Erie. Arriving to a field full of people we came across the windmills and I knew we had to take some photos there. It had just rained and there was lighting in the background so we had some fun running around taking photographs. Unfortunately we didn’t get to set the lanterns up in the sky because of the weather, but I think it was a wonderful day and session anyways.

Congrats again you two!
